The Perfect Weekend in Krakow!

GETTING TO KRAKOW

If you are travelling from Warsaw to Krakow, the best, quickest and most comfortable way is to take the EIP (Express IntreCity Premium) from Dworzec Warszawa Centralna ( Warsaw Central railway station). The journey takes 2h 21 minutes. The first-class tickets are between £20-£50 each way depending on how far in advance you book. Seats are very comfortable, lots of leg space, and you can fit medium size luggage on the overhead racks. There is also a separate space for large suitcases near the main door, so don’t panic. Small meal and beverage such as water, tea or coffee are included in the price of the ticket. One thing to note is that you MUST have an allocated seat while travelling by EIP or any other train during the Pandemic. You can purchase tickets via the Intercity.pl website, and it’s a very straightforward process.

A brief history of CC41 – The Utility Clothing Scheme

I’ve been fascinated by the history of the Utility Clothing Scheme in Britain for years and I have a very strong penchant for buying garments with the CC41 logo, even multiples of the same item. What can I tell you, I can never resist, yet another pair of 1940s knickers or a teddy. It’s simply beyond my control!

Considering my large, and yet, still growing collection of clothes and lingerie bearing the CC41 tag, some might say that I’m a little bit obsessed with it. I, however, prefer the word passionate.

How to take care of vintage clothes!

A few months ago I was devastated to discover that my favourite authentic Victorian funeral cape, bought in near mint condition several years earlier at a vintage fair in London (you can read about vintage fairs here), had seemingly overnight, developed brown spots all over. Doing some online sleuthing, I was able to ascertain that my mistake had been to store it using a recently purchased plastic garment cover. This was a crime! As it transpired that what I thought were spots, was actually a layer of silk that had deteriorated because of a reaction with the plastic.

When in doubt, wear a Handmacher suit!

I’m a huge fan of vintage skirt suits, and if you are curious about the reasons, read my article about the 1940s-1950s suits.  I don’t look for any particular brands when searching for a new addition to my growing suit collection. With the exception of the Taylored by Handmacher suits! You can see in the picture below, an example of one of my lovely 1950s Handmacher suits. The exact same one, at least style-wise, was featured in Harper’s Bazaar from 1952.
